Overnight Friday July 27, 2018 into the morning hours of Saturday July 28th the Cranston Fire continued to burn. While the fire grew to 12,300 acres as of Friday night and containment grew to 16%, the fire continued to burn away from communities such as Mountain Center and Idyllwild. According The the US Forest Service, fire behavior remained active on the northeast and southeast portions of the fire. Those areas experienced short, active runs with short range spotting. Good progress was made on the fire, but hot spots remain within the fire perimeter. Lines were reinforced and hot spots extinguished toward the heel of the fire. Since the start of the fire on Wednesday July 25th, three Firefighters have suffered injuries and five structures have been lost. The following areas remain under mandatory evacuation orders: Mountain Center, Idyllwild, Hurkey Creek, San Jacinto Mountain State Park, Fern Valley, Pine Cove, Cedar Glen and all of Garner Valley.
