SHERMAN OAKS: Former NBA Player Officer Involved Shooting and Standoff

At around 5pm Friday afternoon the LAPD responded to reports of a possibly armed man acting erratically near the intersection of Riverside Dr and Tyrone Ave in Sherman Oaks. At some point after that an officer involved shooting occurred. Media reports and scanner traffic indicate that the suspect is Tyler Honeycutt, former basketball player for UCLA and in the NBA.
A SWAT Standoff has been underway since the shooting with no communication with the suspect. Earlier reports indicated that text messages were sent from the suspect after the shooting, but (per scanner traffic) after a verification of time stamps, those texts were sent BEFORE the OIS shooting with the last one sent at 18:36 hours. No one has had any contact with the suspect since the shooting. Currently a robot is trying to make entry into the suspects room with 40mm rounds. The robot has found nothing in the kitchen or living area.
Riverside Dr is still closed at this time. The closure extends a few blocks east and west of Tyrone due to the still active SWAT situation.
