MASTIC, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK – Suffolk County Police, Mastic FD, & Mastic EMS were alerted to an overturned tanker with a driver trapped inside. The crash happened at Oak Ave near McGraw Street & Eastbound Sunrise Highway Service Road.
Suffolk County Police 7th Precinct units arrived and confirmed the driver was trapped. Officers worked prior to fire department arrival to extricate the man from the cab. Under command of Mastic Fire Department Chief Rudy Sunderland, firefighters had to secure the truck. Fire officials said the truck was also carrying multiple propane tanks.
The Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal Office Hazardous Materials Team was requested to the scene due to the propane tanks on board. EMS evaluated the driver but it’s not clear if he went to the hospital.
