SYLMAR: Hydrant Crash Breaks Water Main

*Story Details:* *Time* – 0215 *Location* – 16348 Foothill Blvd, Sylmar, Los Angeles *Handling Agencies* – LAPD Valley Traffic Division, LAFD
At approximately 0215, LAFD and LAPD responded to reports of a traffic collision with a hydrant involved. Arriving units found a solo vehicle rolled over, that had sheared off a fire hydrant. The solo female occupant was evaluated by paramedics, but declined ambulance transport. The broken hydrant sent water gushing about 60 feet into the air. Due to the extremely high pressure of the hydrant, a water main across the street ruptured. This caused the sidewalk under the broken water main to crack and rise up. Dirt and rocks filled the street near the broken part of sidewalk. DWP was requested to the scene. LAFD has part of the bike lane and the #1 EB lane of Foothill Blvd blocked off. LAPD Valley Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
