On Thursday night, June 13, 2019, the City of Riverside Fire Department along with the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a vehicle fire at the Riverside Interchange. The fire was reported around 9:22pm on the northbound 215 where it transitions to the westbound 60. The first arriving engine company reported a sedan well involved. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire within minutes of arriving. According to a witness, he smelled smoke then saw the car next to him on fire. He said he frantically motioned for the driver to pull over as flames were coming from the driver side front tire area. The witness also stated he attempted to see if anyone was trapped in the vehicle but the flames and heat were preventing him from getting close. Luckily, all occupants inside the vehicle were able to escape without injury.
