Early Sunday morning September 09, 2018 the City of Riverside Fire Department & Cal Fire / Riverside County Fire responded to reports of a fire along the city border with Riverside County. The fire was reported around 2:39am in the Santa Ana River bottom east of the Van Buren Blvd. bridge. The first arriving engine company reported smoke showing from the river bottom in thick vegetation. Due to the location of the fire, Firefighters had a tough time making access. The fire was contained to roughly 1/4 acre in a homeless encampment. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. No injuries were reported.
