Late Monday night August 13, 2018 the California Highway Patrol along with Cal Fire / Riverside County Fire and AMR responded to multiple reports of a vehicle into a utility pole with lines down across the roadway. The crash was reported around 11:19pm in the 17600 block of Van Buren Blvd. just west of Gamble Avenue. The first arriving engine company reported a full size pick up truck had struck and sheared a utility pole with lines down across Van Buren Blvd. The driver of the truck was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition. Southern California Edison was requested to the scene for the downed lines and the sheared pole. It was later determined the lines were not power lines. Van Buren Blvd., which is a major thoroughfare between the 215 Freeway in Moreno Valley and the 91 Freeway in Riverside, was expected to remain closed in both directions between Gamble and Porter Avenues for several hours while crews work to repair the downed lines. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
