RIVERSIDE: Homeless Encampment Fire

On Tuesday night June 19, 2018 the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in the Santa Ana River bottom. The fire was reported around 8:30pm in the river bottom north of Mission Inn Ave. and south of Fairmount Park along the bike path. The first arriving engine company reported a fire in a homeless encampment in thick brush. Firefighters made a quick and aggressive fire attack and were able to contain the fire to the encampment and the surrounding brush. The cause of the fire is possibly a cooking or warming fire that spread to the surrounding vegetation.
