RIVERSIDE: Fire Near Storage Facility

On Saturday night, April 13, 2019, the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a possible storage facility on fire in the downtown area.  At around 10:00pm 911 callers reported a large column of black smoke as well as flames visible from the area of Vine and 3rd streets. The first arriving engine company reported a large pile of railroad ties on fire with extension to nearby trees and  utility pole behind the Packing House Self Storage. Firefighters made a quick and aggressive fire attack as flames shot 30-40 feet into the air. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they reached overhead power lines. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
