RIVERSIDE: Fatal Vehicle vs Pedestrian Hit & Run

On Monday night, August 19, 2019, the City of Riverside Fire Department along with the Riverside Police Department and AMR responded to reports of a vehicle vs pedestrian hit and run traffic collision. The major injury hit and run was reported around 8:26pm in the 8900 block of Indiana Avenue. When officers arrived they located a 19- year old male down in the roadway. The victim was rushed to an area hospital with major injuries where he later succumbed to his injuries. According to friends of the victim, they were getting ready to head out for the night when their friend realized he forgot something in the house. He exited the car which was facing eastbound on Indiana Avenue, and was crossing the street when a vehicle struck him, sending him flying into the air. They say the driver was speeding like he was in an Indy Race and never attempted to stop. Per Officer Railsback with the Riverside Police Department, witnesses described the vehicle as a newer model dark blue or black Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. Police closed Indiana Avenue in both directions between Arrowhead and Haskell streets while they conducted their investigation. The Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and is investigating.
