RIVERSIDE: Brush Fire Threatens Homes

On Wednesday morning, October 30, 2019, the City of Riverside Fire Department along with mutual aid from surrounding agencies responded to multiple reports of a fire in the Santa Ana River bottom. The fire, dubbed the Dexter Incident, was first reported in the river bottom behind Fairmount Park. The fast moving, wind and fuel driven fire, forced evacuations as it advanced toward homes. Officers with the Riverside Police Department were assisting with evacuations on Indian Hill Road, Ladera Lane and Beacon Way as strong winds carried embers into the residential neighborhood. By 1:45pm the fire was zero percent contained and evacuations were still in place due to the active structure threat. At 3:45pm all evacuations were lifted with zero structures lost and no injuries reported. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
