RIVERSIDE: Armed Robbery Suspect Shot

On Monday evening July 09, 2018 Deputies shot and wounded a robbery suspect armed with a handgun. The Deputy involved shooting occurred around 7:30pm to the rear of a strip mall in the area of Van Buren Boulevard and Arlington Avenue. The suspect was wanted for an armed robbery of a store in Yucaipa around 12:30pm. According to Police, the suspect was pulled over in the City of Riverside by another agency, possibly the California Highway Patrol or a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy when he fled on foot into a nearby canal. An hours long manhunt went on until an alert citizen advised Police a man was seen coming out of a manhole near Van Buren and Arlington. The suspect entered a water store in the strip mall armed with a gun. Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department along with Officers with the California Highway Patrol as well as the Riverside Police Department surrounded the store. Around 7:30pm the suspect exited the rear of the store, still armed with the handgun, and a Deputy involved shooting occurred. According to Sgt. Woods with the Riverside Police Department, Officers with the City of Riverside were not involved in the shooting. The suspect was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital in unknown condition. No other injuries were reported.
