CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – On Friday May 28, 2021 at 3:27PM Charlotte Fire Communications received multiple 911 calls reported a fire in a condo complex at at 7916 Horse Chestnut Lane in the Raintree Neighborhood. Charlotte Firefighters from Station #39 arrived within minutes and found the 2nd floor of a 2 story condo fully involved. Flames were pushing through the roof with heavy smoke blanketing the sky. At 3:57PM due to heavy fire conditions and unstable structure evacuation tones were sounded and firefighters went to an defensive attack from the outside. A 2nd alarm was called shortly after bringing additional firefighters to the scene. The 2nd floor of at least 2-3 units had completely collapse and burned through. All residents had self evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department. Charlotte Fire Captain Dennis Gist said, “The fire was under control within 40 minutes.” The cause is under investigation by the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force.
