SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, Queens (LoudlabsNYC) – A candle caused an accidental fire that claimed the life of 8-year-old Tighani Jones. This happened at 2:52 am, at 140-26 160th St, within the confines of the 113th Precinct. Sixty firefighters responded to the all-hands fire. After extinguishing the fire on the second floor, they discovered an 8-year-old boy unresponsive and unconscious. He was pronounced deceased on scene by Paramedics. A sixteen-year-old boy jumped out of a second story window. Six residents were treated for minor injuries including smoke inhalation and emotional distress. After an investigation by fire marshalls, they determined the cause of the fire to be a candle. They also found non-working smoke detectors. Department of Buildings discovered the attic was illegally converted. Tighani Jones was the sixth person in Southeast Queens whose life was lost in a fire in the last ten weeks, according to the Queens Chronicle.
