QUEENS: Cops Fatally Shoot Gunman

8.30.19 | Video by Adam Balhetchet | JAMAICA, Queens (DCPI) – At approximately 1:45 AM, officers from the 103 Precinct responded to a report of a male assaulted in front of 107-35 Sutphin Boulevard. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered a 26-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. EMS transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Officers at the scene reviewed surveillance video depicting the suspect and broadcasted a detailed description as well as the direction of flight to canvassing officers. At approximately 2:19 AM, plain-clothed officers assigned to the 103 Precinct, were canvassing in the vicinity of 156 Street and 110 Avenue when they spotted a male who fit the description of the suspected shooter. The officers were turning their car around when he observed the officers and fired several shots at their vehicle. The officers exited their unmarked police vehicle and returned fire, which struck the male in the head. The male was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The officers were removed to Long Island Jewish Hospital for an evaluation. A 9MM handgun was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
