Police Tear Gas Bus & Arrest Suspect | ANAHEIM CA 10.8.20

ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA – Video of standoff that lasted for hours and OCSD SWAT taking the subject into custody with tear gas and the help of a K9

– A man was arrested Thursday night in Anaheim after refusing to get out of an Orange County Transportation Authority bus for hours following a report that he attacked another passenger, authorities said.
It was around 4 p.m. when there was a report of a fight going on between passengers, said Lt. Miguel Sotelo, Chief of Transit Police Services for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Transit Police Services provides law enforcement for the OCTA.
“While en-route, the deputies received an update that the suspect had assaulted another passenger by punching him and that he had pulled out what what is described as a box cutter knife and threatened to kill him,” Sotelo told a news photographer at the scene.
As deputies made their way to the call they were alerted that the suspect had left the bus and boarded another one, Sotelo said.
A person in the area reported the number of the bus the suspect boarded and authorities were able to pull the bus over in Anaheim near the intersection of Anaheim Boulevard and Cerritos Avenue, he said.
Deputies helped the passengers get off the bus but the suspect would not get out and threatened law enforcement, authorities said.
Hostage negotiators and a SWAT crew were called to the scene but the suspect kept refusing to give himself up, Sotelo said, so eventually they used tear gas to get him off the bus. After he still did not comply with commands, a canine was deployed, and the man was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. (OCRegister)
