MATHEWS, NORTH CAROLINA – On Sunday night April 11, 2021 at 11:00PM multiple 911 calls into Matthews Police Department & Mecklenburg EMS reported a person struck by a vehicle on East Independence Boulevard in the town of Matthews. 911 calls reported the person had be struck multiple times and was possibly DOA. Matthews Police Department, Matthews Fire/EMS & Mecklenburg EMS arrived on scene within minutes. Firefighters located the unidentified victim in the outbound lanes of East Independence Blvd deceased. Two small sedan vehicles were stopped about 200 feet north of the deceased victim. One of the drivers seemed visibly shaken and upset. Matthews Police Department shutdown the outbound lanes of East Independence Blvd for a fatal accident investigation. The Matthews Police Accident Reconstruction Team was called to scene to assist with the investigation. It’s still unclear if the person was trying to cross East Independence Blvd and if so from what side.
