LOWER EAST SIDE, Manhattan – A fire broke out in the walls of a vacant apartment 2 am Friday at 38 Ludlow St. Firefighters made forced entry into the vacant apartment. They found the walls on fire and extinguished it quickly. Residents had to evacuate the building and were seen outside in the cold. Searches for victims were negative and no one was injured in the fire, which went under control by 3 am.
