WESTLAKE CA – LAPD was called at about 9:00 pm to a disturbance near the intersection of W. Temple St and N. Union Ave for a man that apparently beat up his mother. When LAPD arrived they saw the man was armed with a knife and called for backup. LAPD blocked off all intersections surrounding the incident. The man barricaded himself on the second floor balcony and began throwing objects at police and damaging vehicles below. At one point the man tried to set the building on fire but firefighters quickly hosed the man down. After several hours police managed to talk him into surrendering
with the help of his mother. SWAT was also called in to assist with the situation. LAPD officers took him into custody without further incident and he was transported to a local hospital. No further information available. LAPD Rampart is handling the investigation.
