MORENO VALLEY: Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

On Friday night, January 03, 2020, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the City of Riverside Police Department as deputies were pursuing a suspected stolen pickup truck. Shortly before 11:00pm, deputies attempted a traffic stop on the pickup truck in the City of Moreno Valley. The male driver refused to yield and a pursuit was initiated. The driver led pursuing deputies northbound on the 215 Freeway towards the City of Riverside. The suspect then traveled westbound on the 91 Freeway where he exited at Van Buren Blvd. Once in the city of Riverside, Riverside Police Officers joined the pursuit. The suspect weaved his way through parts of the city before entering the eastbound 91 Freeway at Tyler Street. Officers with the California Highway Patrol then joined the pursuit which traveled eastbound on the 91 Freeway to the southbound 215 Freeway before exiting Frederick Street in the City of Moreno Valley. The suspect continued eastbound on Sunnymead Blvd. then northbound on Olive Wood Plaza Drive before crashing into a fence, in a dirt field, which parallels the 60 freeway. The suspect then jumped the fence and ran across all lanes of the 60 Freeway eventually running into the Segovia Apartments in the 23200 block of Hemlock Avenue. Once in the apartment complex, the suspect broke a window and entered an apartment unit on the second floor. With the help of a Police K-9, the suspect was located inside the unit and taken into custody around midnight. No injuries were immediately reported.
