MORENO VALLEY: Double Fatal Crash

On Thursday afternoon, September 05, 2019, the California Highway Patrol along with Cal Fire / Riverside County Fire and AMR responded to reports of a multiple vehicle traffic collision on the 60 Freeway. According to Officer Darren Meyer with the California Highway Patrol, around 1:31pm officers responded to a multi vehicle crash on the eastbound and westbound 60 Freeway. Officers and emergency crews were delayed getting to the crash location due to the crash effecting both lanes of the 60 Freeway in a section known as the badlands. That stretch of the freeway is only two lanes in both directions. Initial reports indicate the driver of a corvette was travelling westbound, driving recklessly, when they attempted to pass a semi. The driver lost control, collided with the semi, went up the center k-rail and slammed into a black SUV which was travelling eastbound. Two occupants in the SUV were killed. The driver of the corvette was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Two other occupants in the SUV, a male and a female, were both transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries. The 60 Freeway, in both directions, is expected to remain closed for an undetermined time frame while officers conduct their investigation.
