On Saturday night September 22, 2018 the California Highway Patrol along with Cal Fire / Riverside County Fire and AMR responded to reports of a vehicle vs pedestrian traffic collision. The incident was reported just after 8:00pm in the 21300 block of Markham Street between Clark and Haines Streets. According to Sgt. Helvie with the California Highway Patrol, witnesses reported the driver of a black BMW was traveling eastbound on Markham Street at approximately 80 mph when he struck the female juvenile who was crossing Markham Street on horseback. Both the juvenile and the driver were transported to area hospitals with major injuries. Sadly, the horse perished at the scene. Officers are working to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash. Officers say the girl was celebrating her quinceanera. A white dress was seen laying on top of the majorly damaged BMW.
