MANHATTAN: Cigerette Kills Couple in Fire

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (1.12.19) DCPI – On Saturday, January 12, 2019, at approximately 0522 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a residential fire inside of 435 East 52 Street, apartment #9G, within the confines of the 17 Precinct. Upon arrival and extinguishment of the fire by FDNY personnel, officers observed an 85-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, with severe burns. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. EMS also transported a second individual from inside the apartment, an 89-year-old male, to Cornell Medical Center where he was also pronounced deceased. The cause of the fire is a cigarette.
