MANHATTAN: 4 Homeless Men Murdered

10.5.19 | Video by Adam Balhetchet | CHINATOWN, Manhattan (DCPI) – Assistant Chief Stephen Hughes: “A 24-year-old male person of interest is in custody in connection with the death of four males and the serious assault of a fifth male victim. Today, at 1:49 a.m., officers from the 5th Precinct received a 911 call for a person being assaulted in the vicinity of 2 Bowery. When the responding officers arrived at the location, they discovered an unconscious male lying on the ground with severe head trauma. A second male with head trauma also approached officers at the scene. Two witnesses informed the responding officers that an unknown male, wearing a black jacket and black pants, struck the victim numerous times in the head with a metal object and was then observed fleeing the location westbound on Doyer Street. Officers immediately began searching the area for the suspect and observed a male fitting the description carrying a metal object at the intersection of Mulberry Street and Canal Street. The officers placed the male into custody and recovered the metal pipe without further incident. An expanded search of the area revealed three additional male victims, two in front of 2 East Broadway, one in front of 17 East Broadway. The three males at East Broadway had severe head trauma and were pronounced deceased at the scene. One male at 2 Bowery was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second male at 2 Bowery was transported in critical condition to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital. Presently, a crime scene is established at Bowery and East Broadway. The NYPD is conducting a street-by-street canvass for any additional victims.”
