DONNER SUMMIT, CALIFORNIA (LLN) A storm system moved into Northern California on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2020. A winter storm warning went into effect for the western slope of the Sierra starting at 4:00pm and will last until 4:00pm Saturday. Eight to 18 inches of snow is expected in the Sierra and should wrap up Saturday afternoon. On Friday evening, around 5:00pm, chain control was set up on Interstate 80 between Kingvale, California and Reno, Nevada. Chains are required on all vehicles, except 4-wheel-drive with snow tires. The white Christmas caught some travelers by surprise. Others took the opportunity to enjoy the fresh snow.
