Late Monday night October 01, 2018 crews were out in the Holy Fire burn scar areas preparing for rain and possible flash floods from Hurricane Rosa. In the City of Lake Elsinore, crews strategically placed k-rails along Grand Avenue as well as smaller residential streets where flash flooding may occur. In the Horse Thief Canyon area, crews were out cutting a debris flow channel into the mountain side in hopes of slowing any fast moving water, debris or mud that may come down from the mountains as a result of flash flooding. According to Riverside County Flood Control, their hope is to cut out a large debris flow channel and place giant boulders in the channel to help slow and catch any debris before it becomes a danger to the community. Crews also placed k-rails in and around the Horse Thief Canyon community as well and worked to clean out the storm drains. Crews have been hard at work preparing for the expected rain fall since 7:00am Saturday morning and will remain in the area until the threat of flash flooding has passed.
