CLAREMONT CA – Claremont Pd received a 911 call that there was a bear in the area knocking down trash cans on Baseline Rd and Live Oak Dr. Once officers arrived on scene they located a beer that was sitting in the front yard of a residence. The bear walked next door and knocked down trash can and grabbed a nice chicken dinner from the trash and started eating it. A Claremont Police Officer turned on his sirens and air horn to scare the bear back into the hills. The bear grabbed its chicken and jumped over a wall and into a neighboring yard and started to finish eating his food. Once the bear was finished eating his snack he jumped over another backyard into another neighborhood where he worked his way to the back of the residence and up into the hills. Claremont Pd estimating the bear to be over 1000 pounds. I spoke to a resident that didn’t want her face to be shown and said that the bear is known to the neighborhood and they call him the Baseline Bear.
