HEMPSTEAD, NY – Just before midnight, Friday evening, December 7, 2018, a fire broke out in a single-family dwelling at 43 Robinwood Avenue, in the village of Hampstead, just over the NYC/Nassau County line. It took firefighters close to an hour to bring the blaze under control, on the coldest night of the year. With temperatures in the low 20s F, the residents, mostly children, of 43 Robinwood stood huddled together and wrapped in blankets, before firefighters took them to an awaiting ambulance to get warm. The fire caused considerable damage to the two-story cape-code style house on a quiet residential block. Fire and rescue units from neighboring South and West Hempstead provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. | Video Journalist: Christopher Cyphers
