LONG BEACH, Long Island – A volunteer firefighter critically struck two pedestrians. This occurred around 12:40 am, Saturday, at Riverside Blvd & East Park Ave. The firefighter was responding to a house fire in his vehicle using blue emergency lights. The couple was a 60-year-old husband and 57-year-old wife who just exited Half Moon Bar & Grill. The wife was pronounced dead on the scene. The husband was transported in serious but stable condition with multiple fractures to South Nassau Community Hospital. According to one of the bar patrons, he saw one of the pedestrians launched into the air after they were struck by the 1999 Buck Century. Nassau County crime scene unit was on scene conducting a collision investigation. The firefighter was questioned on the scene and released. The Buick was impounded for inspection.
