CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – About 50+ Charlotte Fire Department firefighters battled a 2nd Alarm fire in South Charlotte early Sunday morning. On Sunday April 25, 2021 at 5:27AM Charlotte Fire Communications received a 911 reporting the back deck of a home at 962 Redfield Drive was on fire. Charlotte Firefighters from a nearby station arrived within 6 minutes and found a large 2 story home 75%-80% involved in fire. Firefighters began to make an aggressive interior attack into the home. Charlotte Fire Department Captain Dennis Gist said “Approximately 12 minutes after making that entry we had to evacuate all firefighters from the structure, due to the 2nd floor collapse.” A 2nd Alarm transmitted to bring in fresh firefighters due to the extended firefight. All occupants of the 2500 sq ft home safely escaped prior to firefighters arriving. For about an hour firefighters conducted a defensive firefighting operation due to the heavy amount of fire and structural integrity of the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force.
