The body of a man was found in the desert near Helendale Thursday evening. SBCo Fire received a call of a possible body in the desert around 6:30 PM. SBCo Fire Engine 4 responded and cancelled paramedics on arrival. The body was found along National Trails Highway (Old Route 66). The body appeared to have been there for a significant period of time. Temperatures in the area have been well above 100 degrees for the past week but there is no confirmation from authorities on whether the death was heat related. SBSO Victor Valley is handling the investigation. The body was located in the 26400 block of National Trails Highway. The San Berndardino County Corner has been called to the scene. This is the fourth body found in the High Desert since June 21, 2018.
