GARDENA: Man Saved by Civilian in Gardena Condo Fire

A vehicle fire occurred in a garage underneath a condo occupied by an elderly couple. A young man from a residence across the street ran into the complex and found an older man struggling to exit the burning unit. He helped him disconnect his tubes from his oxygen tank and carried him to safety. He then ran back in to see if anyone else needed assistance. LACOFD arrived shortly after and began to gain entry into the carport area to start knocking down the fire. The fire spread to the condo above and caused severe structure damage, causing a partial roof collapse. The neighbors, LACOFD and Gardena PD are calling the young man a hero in this incident. LACOFD triaged the man for smoke inhalation and transported him to an area hospital.
