FOREST FALLS: Forest Fire Forces Evacuations

On Friday afternoon July 06, 2018 the US Forest Service and San Bernardino County Fire responded to multiple reports of a fire along Highway 38. The fire was reported shortly before 1:30pm on the northbound side of Highway 38 at Valley Of The Falls Drive. The first arriving engine company reported a 100 foot spot in heavy fuels with a rapid rate of spread. The fire quickly climbed the mountain side and grew to over 40 acres within 30 minutes. The fire is currently burning north-east into the San Bernardino National Forest. Highway 38 is closed from Bryant Street to Angelus Oaks. As if 5:30pm the fire was 200 acres, 0% containment with mandatory evacuations for the Valley of the Falls area to include Forest Falls. Roughly 1,000 residents and 500 kids at area camps have been evaluated. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
