Late Saturday night, May 11, 2019, Officers with the Fontana Police Department were involved in an Officer Involved Shooting. The shooting took place just after 11:00pm on Jurupa Avenue, just east of Cypress Avenue. Details surrounding the officer-involved shooting were limited, however, Police did say officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle when one of the occupants jumped out with a handgun and ran. A brief foot pursuit ensued at which time the officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck in the leg and transported to an area hospital with non-Life threatening injuries. While Officers were investigating the officer-involved shooting, several gunshots rang out in the neighborhood just south-west of the scene. Officers as well as media at the scene took cover. Moments later several officers left the officer-involved shooting scene and headed south on Cypress Avenue. Officers with rifles were also seen running south on Cypress Avenue. Officers were able to stop and detain several males subjects inside a dark colored sedan which was seen leaving the area where the shots rang out. It’s unclear if the subjects detained were involved in the additional shooting or if anyone was injured in the shooting. No further information was immediately available.
