BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – A FDNY Fire Engine crashed into a building, injuring multiple firefighters. According to fire officials, it happened 11:29 pm Sunday at 439 Ave U. That is where Engine 254 may have collided with a Mercedes while responding lights and sirens to an unconfirmed report of a fire at 8750 Bay Parkway (3.4 miles away). That fire came to be unfounded. Up to 5 firefighters and a civilian (possibly the Mercedes driver) were transported to Lutheran & Maimonides Hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Five civilians were evacuated from the second floor of the building via FDNY bucket ladder due to the stairwell barricaded with rubble. FDNY collapse & Rescue units responded to stabilize the building to prevent collapse.
Note: FDNY OPI has not confirmed the Mercedes involvement.
