On Tuesday afternoon September 25, 2018 the City of Corona Fire Department responded to multiple reports of a fire near the Corona Airport. The fire was reported around 1:52pm in the Santa Ana River bottom near Ricon and Auburndale Streets. The fire was burning in thick vegetation and additional resources were requested from surrounding agencies. The fire did pose a threat to near by homes at times as it burned south east through the river bottom. As of 4:15pm the fire was estimated at rough 5 -10 acres and the forward progress of the fire was stopped. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined however, it broke out near several homeless encampments.
