The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the individual in the attached video and photos wanted for questioning in connection to an assault that occurred within the confines of the 9 Precinct. The details are as follows:
It was reported to police that on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at approximately 1137 hours, in the vicinity of 51 Astor Place, a 37-year-old female was heading to an Anti-Asian Violence protest when she was approached by an unidentified male who asked for the sign that she was carrying. The individual attempted to place the sign into a garbage can but then placed the sign on the ground and stomped on it. When the victim asked the male why he did that, he punched her twice in the face with a closed fist. The individual then fled into the Astor Place and 8 Street subway station, 6 line. The victim sustained a small laceration and bruising to her lip and a sprained ankle while running after the individual. The victim was removed via EMS to Lenox Hill Healthplex Hospital for treatment. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.
The unidentified male is described as being approximately 6’1″ tall, 200 pounds, with a medium complexion, slim build, black hair, last seen wearing a red Chicago Bulls hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a black baseball hat, a black face mask, black sneakers and carrying a green back pack.
Cellphone video and photos depicting the individual, provided by the victim, are attached and available at DCPI.
