BRONX: Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Highway

6.27.19 | by Adam Balhetchet | VAN CORTLAND PARK, Bronx – A pedestrian was struck and killed by vehicles on the highway. It happened at 11:40 pm Thursday, on the Major Deegan Expressway, just north of Van Cortland Park South, by exit 11. According to officials, when first responders arrived, they observed a male pedestrian unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to the body. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by EMS. Police say two to four vehicles may have struck this pedestrian. All of those vehicles remained on the scene. NYPD Highway conducted a collision investigation. Reports of the pedestrian being a motorcyclist have been unsubstantiated at this time as no motorcycle was found on the scene. Southbound traffic on the Major Deegan Expressway was shut down and redirected towards East 233rd St. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
