6.5.20 | Video by Adam | BROOKLYN (DCPI) – On Saturday, June 5, 2020 at approximately 0102 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on the Belt Parkway between Cross Bay Boulevard and Erskine Street, within the confines of the 106 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 41-year-old male motorcyclist lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a marked NYPD Highway Unit vehicle was stopped in the left lane on the west bound Belt Parkway in the vicinity of 156 Avenue, with its emergency lights engaged, as the member tended to a civilian’s disabled vehicle within the lane. At this time, the 41-year-old male operator of a 2014 BMW motorcycle was traveling west bound on the Belt Parkway within the left travel lane, at an apparent high rate of speed, and struck the rear of the police vehicle. Upon impact, the motorcyclist became ejected from the motorcycle, and came to a rest on the roadway. The member of service, sitting within the driver’s seat of the police vehicle, was transported to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, via EMS, in stable condition with neck and back pain. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
