An auto verses pedestrian accident late Saturday night in Apple Valley has left one victim in grave condition. The accident occurred around 10:15 PM in the 18700 block of Hwy 18. Apple Valley Fire paramedics responded and requested an air ship to transport the victim to a trauma center but, due to the severity of the injuries, the ambulance diverted to the emergency room at St. Mary’s Medical Center. A Mercy Air Ambulance responded but it is not known if the victim was ever transported to the trauma center. The driver stopped about a half mile from the accident scene with a smashed front windshield. The speed limit on this dark portion of Hwy 18 is 60 mph. The westbound lanes were closed for the investigation.
