RAMPART VILLAGE CA – Los Angeles Police Department responded to calls of protesters blocking the entrance to LA Fresh Poultry where the Jewish community was taking place in Kapparot, a customary atonement ritual practiced by some Jews on the eve of Yom Kippur. This is a practice in which a chicken or money is waved over a person’s head and the chicken is then slaughtered in accordance with halachic rules. Tensions got tight when protesters and Jews would get into small yelling scuffles. Protesters were also concerned about the spread of COVID 19 as no social distancing was seen inside the poultry shop.
