3 Alarm Veg Fire / Riverside 7.31.20

RIVERSIDE – On Friday afternoon July 31, 2020 the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to reports of vegetation on fire in the area of the University of California, Riverside campus. The fire was reported around 2:58pm on University Avenue at Canyon Crest Drive. The first arriving engine company reported multiple large trees surrounded by thick dry brush burning and requested a second alarm. A third alarm was requested shortly after as the fire burned dangerously close to the UCR Alumni and Visitor Center. Firefighters made an aggressive fire attack and were able to contain the fire preventing it from spreading to the Visitor Center. This is the second, third alarm fire in the same location. Earlier, around 11:00am firefighters responded to the same location reference vegetation on fire and a third alarm was requested on that incident as well. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fires remain under investigation.
